Doug Returns to 83 Spring Street Gallery Labor Day Weekend
You are cordially invited to join us on Saturday, September 5th when artist Doug Hall will appear here at 83 Spring Street Gallery, between 10am and 5pm.
Recently I had the pleasure of catching up with Doug at his Southwest Missouri studio. The first thing that comes to mind as you arrive at this idyllic location is that you are miles and miles and miles from the nearest freeway, and that’s just the way Doug likes it!

His latest piece, not quite finished, is tentatively titled
‘Tree Top Advantage’ .
Although Doug has been painting since he was a teenager, his move to painting full-time happened relatively recently. I asked Doug how he made the decision.
“It was an act of God,” he replied, in both a good and bad way.
Up until 2001, Doug owned a sporting goods store in Neosho, Missouri. He enjoyed the business, and it gave him a chance to keep up with his friends in the area. But a tornado demolished it, and the very next day, a new freeway opened, which bypassed his storefront completely.
“I realized I was at a defining moment, and given an opportunity few people receive.” So Doug made the plunge and began painting as a career. He considers the timing to have been perfect, enabling him to establish himself within a circle of artists before the economy went south. Eight years later, Doug is enjoying his critical and commercial success as an artist.

have literally ridden across the country, helping Doug gain further
insight into life in the early 1800’s.
Complementary to his painting historical Native American scenes, Doug frequently participates in reenactments from the early 1800’s to the Civil War era.
And he is an award-winning black powder shooter. Using his own hand-made muzzle loader, Doug won the 2007 Arkansas State Flintlock Aggregate in Berryville.
Doug is truly a kind person, and his art is second to none. Please help us welcome him back to Eureka Springs on the 5th! ~B.W.
