Doug Returns to 83 Spring Street Gallery Labor Day Weekend

You are cordially invited to join us on Saturday, September 5th when artist Doug Hall will appear here at 83 Spring Street Gallery, between 10am and 5pm.

Recently I had the pleasure of catching up with Doug at his Southwest Missouri studio.  The first thing that comes to mind as you arrive at this idyllic location is that you are miles and miles and miles from the nearest freeway, and that’s just the way Doug likes it!

His latest piece, not quite finished, is tentatively titled
‘Tree Top Advantage’ .

Although Doug has been painting since he was a teenager, his move to painting full-time happened relatively recently.  I asked Doug how he made the decision.

“It was an act of God,” he replied, in both a good and bad way.

Up until 2001, Doug owned a sporting goods store in Neosho, Missouri.  He enjoyed the business, and it gave him a chance to keep up with his friends in the area.  But a tornado demolished it, and the very next day, a new freeway opened, which bypassed his storefront completely.

“I realized I was at a defining moment, and given an opportunity few people receive.”    So Doug made the plunge and began painting as a career.  He considers the timing to have been perfect, enabling him to establish himself within a circle of artists before the economy went south.  Eight years later, Doug is enjoying his critical and commercial success as an artist.

have literally ridden across the country, helping Doug gain further
insight into life in the early 1800’s.

Complementary to his painting historical Native American scenes, Doug frequently participates in reenactments from the early 1800’s to the Civil War era.

And he is an award-winning black powder shooter.  Using his own hand-made muzzle loader, Doug won the 2007 Arkansas State Flintlock Aggregate in Berryville.

Doug is truly a kind person, and his art is second to none.  Please help us welcome him back to Eureka Springs on the 5th!  ~B.W.

Mark Hopkins Sculpture Graces Hobbs State Park Visitor Center!!

By 83 spring street

Hobbs State Park celebrated the opening of its $5 Million Visitor Center this past Wednesday, May 27th.

And thanks to the generosity of a Springdale couple, who wish to remain anonymous, Mark Hopkins’  Soaring will be on display in the Visitors Center for the enjoyment of generations to come!

Soaring by Mark Hopkins

Soaring by Mark Hopkins

The couple is quite familiar with Mark’s sculpture, and they have also done very significant volunteer work for the new Hobbs Visitor Center. Noting that the Center celebrated the diversity of wildlife in the State Park, but had no display to highlight its perhaps most regal resident, they felt Soaring had to represent the Park’s Bald Eagle population!

Hobbs State Park, at over 12,000 acres, is Arkansas’ largest State Park. It has a rich history, both natural and human. The park is a relatively new addition to the system, with land being principally acquired in 1987, and, until now, being relatively undeveloped. But all that is about to change, with the opening of the Visitor’s Center and ambitious plans for campgrounds, cabins, and additional facilities.

We encourage our friends to visit Hobbs while in the area and look for Soaring while they are there! Hobbs Visitor Center is located about 30 miles southwest of Eureka Springs and 15 miles east of Rogers on Arkansas Hwy. 12. For more information, see their web site here

83 SPRING STREET ANNOUNCES FINE ART LEASE OPTION

By galleries

CAN’T BUY FINE ART RIGHT NOW? LEASE IT!
83 Spring Street Gallery of Eureka Springs now has a creative answer for collectors of fine art and fine crafts who are not quite ready to purchase a coveted monumental bronze sculpture by Mark Hopkins, or perhaps a Doug Hall Native American painting. Leasing is the increasingly popular solution for both individuals and businesses who may now place their treasured art form at its special site until they are ready to purchase.  Fine Art Leasing is especially attractive in a  Corporate, Business, or Professional setting; contact your tax advisor for your individual details.

Co-owners of 83 Spring Street, Brad and Diana Walpole, believe the leasing option a timely alternative, as well as an increasingly popular method of resource utilization.
The unique double gallery on upper Spring Street presents the largest collection of Mark Hopkins monumental and tabletop bronze sculptures in the country; Don Goin wildlife sculptures and many other fine arts and fine crafts. Call 479-253-8310 for details and visit www.83springstreet.com for a virtual tour through the gallery.
