Melanie Myhre will be the featured artist during the 2nd Saturday Gallery Stroll on August 14th. She will be greeting the public from 1 to 4 p.m. and again from 6 to 9 p.m.
Melanie’s artistic endeavors began at an early age. She was born into an artistic family of painters, writers, and musicians — so expressing herself creatively came naturally and was further fueled by her curiosity for the natural world. Armed with a sketchbook and a sense of wonder and innocence, she spent her days roaming the wilderness of Northern Minnesota. The forests, prairies, and wetlands around her home provided endless inspiration. Other inspirations include Marc Chagall, Vincent Van Gogh, Ansel Adams, C . S. Lewis, and the Brothers Grimm.
Her love for the natural world eventually led Melanie to St. Cloud State University, where she earned a Bachelors’ Degree in Ecology and Environmental Science while she nurtured her art.
Melanie’s photography invites the viewer to explore the world from a more intimate perspective, and often it evokes a haunting remembrance of the innocence of childhood. Emotional elements are an important ingredient in her work, which has often led it to be described as haunting, mystical, and downright magical.
Her emotionally evocative work has earned her recognition from the beginning. Melanie’s first experiences with a camera began in school in a film photography class. She was quickly promoted to yearbook photographer and so it began. She won the first photography contest she entered and is the recent winner of the Eureka Springs Grand Illumination Photography contest. She displays in local galleries but has collectors throughout the world.
Melanie currently resides in the Eureka Springs area and is enjoying exploring the little nooks and crannies it has to offer. Her ‘discoveries’ have often led long time residents to ask “Where is that?”
