Zarks will host a show and reception for internationally-known sculpture artist Tim Cotterill on Saturday, May 1, 2010. This will be the gallery’s opening event for the 23rd Annual Eureka Springs May Festival of the Arts.

Cotterill is known for his exceptional bronze sculptures, especially his trademark series of playful and fanciful frogs. In these pieces he manages to capture the spirited character, the jewel like quality, and the pure joy of these fascinating little creatures. The limited edition pieces have a hand-finished patina and are individually signed and numbered by the artist. These pieces are sought by collectors across the United States, Europe, and Asia and have earned Cotterill the title “The Frogman”.

Sat. May 8 - 12th Annual Group Invitational Theme Show - Widgets, Gizmos, & Doohickies. Show & Artists’ Reception 6:00 to 9:00 P.M.
Zarks will be hosting its 12th Annual Group Invitational Theme Show on Saturday, May 8. Over 30 area artists were invited to interpret this year’s theme, WIDGETS, GIZMOS & DOOHICKEYS, in their own original style and in their choice of medium/s, the only limitations being the size and scope of their imaginations.

The artists bring their own distinctive and familiar style to the project but they have the opportunity and are encouraged to explore other techniques, subject matter and materials than they normally use in their work. The entries are always fascinating, amusing, fanciful, witty, and sometimes soul-stirring and provocative but, most of all, very original.

The show will be on display all day Saturday and everyone is invited to come by and cast their vote for the “People’s Choice Award.” The winner will be announced that evening at the artists’ reception from 6 P.M. until 9 P.M.

Sat. May 15 - Michael Schwade: Contemporary Artifacts - copper, brass, and silver jewelry embellished with glass cabuchons.
Show & Artist Reception 6:00 to 9:00 P.M.

Zarks Gallery’s will feature a Trunk Show by Eureka Springs jeweler Michael Schwade during the October 13th 2nd Saturday Gallery Stroll.

Michael’s distinctive designs are both contemporary and classical, having the appearance of adornments that could have just as easily been created in ancient times rather than today. His pieces have been referred to as “Contemporary Artifacts”.

Michael’s original designs are executed in brass, copper, nickel and sterling silver, and adorned with glass cabochons resulting in very stunning and distinctive pieces of wearable art.

Translucent and brightly-colored glass “stones” are set into pins, earrings, bracelets, rings and hair ornaments formed by braising jewelers brass over a copper base. Some pieces are devoid of stones and focus on the patterns created with the metal itself and the use of various patinas.

Sat. May 22 - Rollin Karg: Hot Glass & Cold Steel - blown glass and metal sculptures.
Show & Artist Reception 6:00 to 9:00 P.M.

Rollin Karg, is a renowned glass artisan from the Midwest who designs and creates small and massive sculptural pieces from molten glass, usually shaped in a freeform, asymmetrical manner. He brings the glass to life through his dynamic use of color, especially dichroic colors – a color that transmits one color while reflecting another – which adds a unique dimension to the piece.

While Karg prefers to use traditional techniques of glassmaking that are thousands of years old, he also adds his own inventive techniques to each project. It is amazing and awe-inspiring to watch him create massive works of art through the use of a five-foot blowpipe.

A former industrial engineer, he started his artistic career as a potter and then moved on to photography and finally woodworking before discovering his true calling, glassblowing. He feels that glassblowing challenges the creativity within him and gives him the satisfaction that he desires. Recently he has begun to fabricate metal sculptures to compliment and display his glasswork.
